Students write popular articles about L&C research
[December 2024]
Students of the programme Communication and Information Sciences at Utrecht University all take a course on writing in their second year. In this course, students are coached in writing a theoretical framework and a popular article about scientific research. This year, students wrote a popular article about research published by researchers from our own Language and Communication group. Work by three students was selected to be published on this website, as good examples of student writing. By clicking on the images below, you can read the entire popular article (in Dutch only).
Jasmijn Baarda wrote a popular article about a study by Bram Vertommen and colleagues, in which they analyzed foreign media coverage of Belgium.
Kjelt Bressers covered this study by Gert-Jan Schoenmakers and colleagues, who studied the use of (in)formal address pronouns in advertisement slogans.
Eefje Gelink wrote a popular article on moving advertisements, based on this study by Hans Hoeken and Hanny den Ouden.
